Skyrim and the dragonborn

After so much hype, I got a copy of TES5 from my wife in December for my PS3. My first impression was quite good. The game looks quite good and much like Oblivion the gameplay is a lot of fun. From what I have seen online though, I am under the impression that the PC version of the game is a bit more impressive in terms of graphics, but in general there isn't much to complain. A few changes made by Bethesda were for the better, such as the way different dungeon areas now have a "completed" label, making things a lot easier to keep track. The addition of crafting skill is also nice.

I may be one of the few however that feels that the talent/leveling system is not as fun as Oblivion. I actually am not a big fan of how they have it all set up, where you need to specialize an pick your talents as you go. I think the idea was great, but I feel that I'm always stuck on that tree, picking a few talents and having to wait a long time before I can pick a couple more. Perhaps if there was a bit more freedom that way I would have enjoyed it more. Afterall, TES was the series that initiated my taste for RPG mainly because of how much freedom it allows, taking away any freedom I had in a previous game will always make me a bit less joyful.

I have also found the new game to be a bit more difficult than TES IV. They changed it so that the environment no longer follows your skill level, which I do like. I think it is nice to watch out where you go and what fight you pick at first, making players a lot more careful and attent.

Overall, I think Skyrim is worth a try. It's a good game and a lot of fun to anyone interested in a good but very long adventure.
